In a home the network hardware may be nothing more than an Internet / ADSL modem or router connected to a computer. As an increasing number of devices are connected, the hardware items will range in businesses to include:

  • streaming audio / internet radio
  • network switches (some with POE)
  • multi function scan / copy / email /print devices
  • NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices
  • managed switches

All such devices are interconnected usually with Cat5e or Cat6 data cabling.
